Biography

Dr. Jan van Aalst is an Honorary Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1999. He was an Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University in Canada before joining the Faculty of Education at HKU in 2007, where he served as Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Research). His research focuses on knowledge building, particularly collaborative learning, pedagogy, and assessment in online environments. He is a Fellow of the International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS) and served as Editor-in-Chief (2017-2020) and Associate Editor (2013-2016) of the Journal of the Learning Sciences. He currently serves on the editorial boards of several journals including the International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning.
